Study: Why Do Healthy Non-Smokers Get Lung Cancer?
While smoking is one of the main causes of lung cancer, The Atlantic took a closer look at causes of younger non-smokers being diagnosed with the disease.
The article cites that an estimated 10 to 15 percent of lung cancer patients in the U.S. have never smoked and some are even diagnosed at a younger age than the typical lung cancer patient.
Researchers at the Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute are currently studying whether lung cancer in young patients harbors specific genetic mutations or existing environmental risk factors.
The article highlights the fact that anyone is at risk for the disease and should see their doctor when lung cancer symptoms like coughs or changes in breathing persist. Read more about the ongoing research here.
