Benefits of CyberKnife® for Lung Cancer Patients
Oklahoma CyberKnife treats lung tumors with an advanced procedure called stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). During the procedure, precisely targeted, high-dose radiation beams are delivered to the tumor without sedation or incision. One major benefit of using CyberKnife technology to treat lung tumors is the CyberKnife’s ability to track tumors in real time, adjusting for tumor movement during normal breathing. This minimizes radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
CyberKnife provides an alternative for those unable or unwilling to undergo lung cancer surgery. CyberKnife treatment is painless and is completed in five or fewer treatment sessions compared to the 40 treatments typically required with conventional radiation therapy. Patients typically return to their normal routines immediately following CyberKnife treatment.
